5 Tips for a Successful Trip With Interrail!

Before leaving with Interrail, I had a ton of questions in my head. How does the Interrail pass really work? Are the exit and entry tickets to France included? How to find our train journeys? Is there still room in the trains? How does booking work and where to buy? And many more! But luckily, a former classmate had just shared his trip with Interrail. Neither one nor two, I contacted him and it must be said that he helped us tremendously! The blog posts I found did not really answer my questions. So, after the review of our journey, here are some tips that you will surely be useful if you want to leave with Interrail.
DOWNLOAD THE APPLICATION INTERRAIL
“Rail Planner” will be your best friend for the whole trip! This is the essential application of any trip with Interrail! Thanks to it you will be able to know which trains you have to take to reach your next destination. With all the settings you can absolutely find your happiness: high-speed trains, regional trains, trains with reservation.

It will facilitate your organization and I can tell you, it is more than practical. It contains all the necessary information and is used even offline. Then all you have to do is go to the station, find the number of your train and go to the corresponding platform. A real-time saver! In addition, from the application, you can even make reservations for trains that require it.
TAKE YOUR TIME
When traveling with Interrail, you will definitely want to see everything. This is not the right solution. The more you are going to want to make cities, the less time you will have in these cities and so the less you will see things! To run everywhere, between visits and trains, you will not appreciate your trip. So, sort it out, ask the right questions and end up making choices. You can redo Interrail as many times as you want. So you can visit the cities that you could not do the first time. You will appreciate more than your trips.
REMEMBER TO WRITE IN YOUR TRAVEL DIARY
In addition to being useful for controllers, it will allow you to be aware of the overall journey you have made. On this one, you will have to indicate all the trains that you take. For example, to reach Stockholm from Copenhagen, we had to take the first train from Copenhagen to Gothenburg then from Gothenburg to Stockholm. Thus, on our Travel Diary, we wrote: “Copenhagen – Gothenburg” and “Gothenburg – Stockholm”. This is what the controllers check when they pass. And if you have a Flexipass, those who allow you a certain number of travel over the valid duration of your pass, remember to indicate the date of your day of travel! This is what the controllers check in particular.
GOODBYE THE SUITCASE, HELLO THE BACKPACK
If ever, like me, you hesitate to leave with a suitcase or a backpack. The answer is the backpack! The wheeled suitcase is only perfect for trips with one destination. When you start changing from time to time the best is the backpack. As we changed our destination every 3-4 days and we moved our things only then. I said to myself “why invest in a backpack, I already have a suitcase and it will do very well”. Well no, and there are many reasons for that.

The main is the place offered for suitcases in trains, and know that there is not all the time and you can not put it above your heads, it is dangerous therefore prohibited. So you will often find yourself blocking a place just for your suitcase. People are often not happy. Also, the steps! Escalators are not always present, and carrying your suitcase at arm’s length is not really the best! I do not tell you when we saw that our Airbnb was on the fifth floor without a lift.

Monsieur took my suitcase on his shoulder and we looked at each other saying “umpteenth reason not to take a wheeled suitcase when traveling with Interrail”. I realized my road trip on the American east coast with my suitcase. But we had a car and it was not until the end. There it was different and I learned well from my mistake. So, if we redo interrail I intend to invest in a backpack! Lesson retained! and carrying your suitcase at arm’s length is not really the best! AND FINALLY, TRAINS
In my previous article, I told you how easy it was to travel by train. And yet, some tips will not be denied. Some trains are made up of so-called silent wagons and free wagons, in which passengers can speak freely. If you like quiet, read or watch a movie without hearing three teenagers fight or speak loudly as if they had a microphone in the mouth. I strongly advise you to favor silent wagons. We traveled in a non-silent wagon between Copenhagen and Gothenburg. It was the four longest hours of our entire trip. After, when there is no choice there is no choice, unfortunately.

Also, plan a fleece, a vest or something warm that will protect you from the air conditioning. Enemy number one of all train trips, that’s how I got sick and do not lie, get sick on a trip that’s all but will number 1. So, lesson learned, I spent the rest of the trains to put my polar for a trip in full health. And especially, do not hesitate to plan food – especially if you travel during meals – movies and books to pass the time. Thanks to that, all our train trips went by in a flash.

These few tips will allow you, I hope, to live serenely your interrail. But also to answer questions that you can surely have before leaving. And if you have questions I have not answered yet. Feel free to leave me a comment, I will answer with great pleasure.
